Since introducing Pandora Charts last year, something has become clear to the team at Next Big Sound: Artists, managers, and labels are paying very, very close attention to our charts. And for a good reason, as charts not only tell you how an artist or track is doing at a given moment, but also help craft career stories and document major milestones.

That’s why we are making every artist’s chart history readily available on Next Big Sound. Starting today, you will be able to view an artist’s historic and current chart appearances on their Next Big Sound Artist Profile page — all in sequential order. Additionally, any time an artist you follow appears on a chart, the appearance will also show up in your Weekly Report. These new features make it easier for artists and managers to track an artist’s career progression throughout the years.

An Artist’s Rise As Mapped By Pandora Charts

To illustrate this, we’ll look at an artist that is currently charting on Pandora Top Spins and Pandora Trendsetters: the rapper GoldLink. He first appeared on the Pandora Predictions chart two years ago and made a reappearance on that same chart earlier this year. Now, he’s at #13 on Pandora Trendsetters and his song, “Crew” is at #44 on Pandora Top Spins. How does all of this weave into his career to tell a compelling story?

We did a little digging and found that GoldLink released his debut mixtape, The God Complex in 2014, receiving critical acclaim from Spin, Complex, and other industry publications. The following October saw the release of a sophomore mixtape, After That, We Didn’t Talk. Surrounding that release, GoldLink saw a 30,000+% increase in Instagram Followers and a 200+% increase in Twitter Followers. Soon after, on November 27, 2015, GoldLink debuted on the Pandora Predictions chart at #2.

New Pandora spins, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube followers added weekly adjusted relative to one another surrounding the release of GoldLink’s “After That, We Didn’t Talk”

2016 was equally a big year for GoldLink as he signed a major deal with RCA and began working on his studio album, At What Cost, which dropped in March 2017. That same month, GoldLink reappeared on the Pandora Predictions chart.

Steadily growing in audience size and popularity, GoldLink made his debut appearance at #19 on the Pandora Trendsetters chart on June 2, 2017. Later that same month, “Crew (feat. Brent Faiyaz & Shy Glizzy)” debuted on the Pandora Top Spins chart, where it is currently in its 16th week.

Putting these together, we see a strong intertwined story of an artist’s career progression and their corresponding rise on Pandora Charts. Seeing this, it only makes sense to tell these stories in tandem.

Stellar Performances

In addition to weekly chart placements, we’ll also give you a heads up when an artist you follow sees noteworthy chart movement. Those occasions include:

  • Hot Streaks: This only applies to the Top Spins chart. Most tracks are “sunset” from Top Spins after 16 weeks — more on that methodology here — but exceptions are made for songs that are still moving up in spins and chart rank. If a track continues to chart beyond 16 weeks, it’s on a Hot Streak!
  • Big Moves: This applies to any track or artist moving up the chart by five or more positions.
  • Reappearances: This applies to artists or songs that reappear on a chart after having fallen off. Event though it’s not a debut, it’s still exciting!

With these inclusions, you’ll never miss a chart appearance again. But for those times you do miss one, or if you’ve just discovered a new artist recently, they’re all available on the Artist Profile page.
