This week’s chart brings you fan competitions, a brand new genre with a rather interesting name, and more.
Last week the EDM duo CAKED UP held the number four spot on the chart, and this week Oscar Wylde – who serves as one half of the twosome – stands at number two.
Between the period of August 25th and September 23rd Oscar Wylde, who maintains separate accounts for his solo work, gained 10,800 followers on Twitter compared to a growth of just 216 followers during the previous period. It also interesting to note that Wylde was mentioned on Twitter more than 12,000 times during the same period, and that 70% of those mentions and retweets came from female users. The apparent ladies man also enjoyed a thousand more Facebook page likes and 171,000 SoundCloud plays over the past month as well. People must be jamming.
Eight spots down on the chart is X Factor UK alum Ella Henderson. The songstress’ metrics are up across the board. She saw more than than 22,000 plays on SoundCloud and has a solid following on Instagram, with close to 40,000 followers in total - of which more than 2600 followed her account in the past month. On August 15th, Henderson and her team announced the “Ella’s Instagramer” contest though several of her social channels. The contest encouraged fans to upload various themed snaps over a 6-week period for a chance to be Ella’s Instagram photographer for a day. Each week Henderson gave a shout out to her favorite photo, and the happy winner was announced on September 22nd.
Following Ella Henderson on the chart is NYMZ. The EDM DJ experienced a big bump in Facebook page likes over the past month, with 3,370 new page likes this month compared to only 57 during the month before. Accompanied by the increase in Facebook fan interaction are more than 40,000 SoundCloud plays, which is an increase of 140%. During this time NYMZ uploaded a two-track EP and a remix of Steve Aoki, Chris Lake & Tujamo’s “Boneless” which has given him around 23,000 plays to date. According to a Facebook post dated September 8th, his tagging of the remix as Bonerstep has made three blogs proclaim him the, “originator of a new genre.”
So there you have it, this weeks chart features originators, differentiators, and Instagramers. Tune in next week to keep your finger on the pulse of music on the rise.
